The ratings for this make no sense. First, price is fine. You're paying $40 per user - seems reasonable. But here are the issues... 1. I can't create a mockup page in one click the way I can with Gliffy. I have to edit a page, add a mockup, then edit the mockup (while in edit mode). Too painful. 2. Adding existing mockups (which we have tons) - I have to do the same as step 1, but then I have to import the XML by pasting it into a textbox. Ridiculous. 3. Its slow. Really slow. Coming from the desktop version I can't stand it. Our process remains the same: 1. Author using the desktop. 2. Export PNG 3. Dump PNG's into an attachments bucket on a mockups page. 4. Create pages and display single PNG's to capture discussions around mockups. I was hoping the authoring/updating experience would eliminate the need for the desktop version and solve the issues around versioning mockups. Hopefully they'll put some more work into this plugin (see Gliffy)

Vendor response

Hi Matthew, thanks for the review. A few answers:

1. The new flow for creating a mockup (edit wiki page, insert mockup, save wiki page) is what Atlassian UI mandates starting on Confluence 5 (the Add menu is gone).

2.Same as above, the flow for all plugins will become edit wiki page, select what you want to edit and hit edit.

3.Regarding uploading existing Mockups built in Mockups for Desktop, I agree that having to export and import is a bit cumbersome. There's also another way http://support.balsamiq.com/customer/portal/articles/113837#moving-advanced but it's also not as smooth as it could be. We'll improve this aspect.

4.Regarding the speed, what version of the plugin are you using, and what version of the Flash Player? The latest version of both make the plugin work pretty smoothly for us, though it won't be as fast as the Desktop version.

For any issues, we're here: support@balsamiq.com

Nice add on but it's too darn expensive.

If you don't need the plugin for all of your Confluence users, you may buy it from us directly and purchase a small license. More info here: http://support.balsamiq.com/customer/portal/articles/542517

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Yeah. This MAKES collaboration. I work in the Confluence, I build my Balsamiq Mockup WITHIN Confluence, I save in Confluence. Don't have to worry about uploading, grabbing the wrong file, where did I put that FILE? No, it's all there. And it's simple, powerful. And makes working together faster and funNER.

Great plugin, and now that they've started using the full version numbers here on Atlassian Marketplace, we can finally keep up to date with the latest features. Keep up the good work guys!

Paid-via-Atlassian pricing FAQ

How do upgrades and renewals work?

You can upgrade your Atlassian host product license to increase the user tier for add-on licenses any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula, and are automatically reflected in your cart. View an example of the JIRA upgrade price matrix here.

Add-on licences for downloaded Atlassian products are perpetual. Your original purchase includes 12 months of maintenance. To continue receiving upgrades and support after the initial 12 months, you can renew your maintenance for 50% of the original purchase price. You can purchase maintenance for up to 36 additional months at any time.

OnDemand add-on subscriptions renew each month and can be canceled any time.

How do I determine my pricing tier?

Choose the same user tier you pay for in the Atlassian host application. For example, if you have a JIRA download license for 25 users, you should purchase this tier.

Even if fewer users want to use the add-on than your host application license, the two licenses should match exactly.

What's the difference between OnDemand and download pricing?

Just like your Atlassian host application, there are two pricing models. Pick the model that matches your Atlassian product, and the same rules apply:

OnDemand:
Subscriptions renew every month
Add-ons and instances are hosted by Atlassian
Download:
Licenses last forever, support and upgrades last for 12 months
Instances and add-ons are hosted on your servers
Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses?

Add-on purchase and renewal is half-price if you have an academic license for your Atlassian host application.

Add-ons are always free for community and open-source licenses.

For more details about qualifying for special licenses, see here.

Do you offer enterprise pricing?

Choose enterprise pricing if your Atlassian host application is billed for enterprise licenses.

Enterprise pricing includes 24/7 phone and email support, access to training through Atlassian University, and other perks. Learn more.

Can I extend my free trial?

You can extend your add-on trial up to 5 times – in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Free Trial and you'll be directed to generate a license at MyAtlassian. Paste this license key into the add-on listing in UPM from your Atlassian host application, and you're all set.

Alternatively, if you remove your expiring trial license from your Atlassian host application, you can re-add it back for another free trial.

What are legacy pricing tiers?

If you bought your Atlassian host application during or before February 2012, you qualify for legacy pricing tiers.

  • JIRA tiers are 10, 25, 50, and 100 users. The legacy unlimited tier was 100+ users.
  • The Confluence legacy tiers are 10, 25, 50, 100, 500, and 2000 users. The unlimited legacy tier was 2000+ users.
  • There are no enterprise licenses prior to and including February 2012.
