An HTTP authenticator for Confluence, formerly known as the Confluence Shibboleth Authenticator

An HTTP authenticator for Confluence, formerly known as the Confluence Shibboleth Authenticator

    Authenticate via HTTP

    Auth locally, if you must

    Manage group membership

Your SSO authenticates the user and either sets an environment variable in the request or an HTTP header and we use that as the authenticated user. The strategy to use is configurable.

Local authentication can still work, or not. You decide.

Very configurable, including the ability to manage groups/roles, if you only want a subset of groups to reside in the Confluence user repository, something that is of interest to larger organizations and universities.

Excellent plugin. Because it can use any header or environment variable, you're not limited to Shibboleth, but you can also use mod_auth_mellon, which is easier to set up but a little bit less scalable. If you have many SPs behind a SAML proxy then this is a good approach.

Provides the needed support for Shibboleth authentication without overwhelming bells and whistles. Straightforward to use if you read the documentation provided. Importantly, this plugin is actively maintained and updated.

For those that say that it is not trivial to setup this plugin and Shibbolize confluence, I feel your pain. However, I did my best to enhance the wiki documentation and fix and apply fixes the best I've had time to do. The essential part of the config file for it isn't that complex. For those that want to see better, please contribute to the project. We've been running with a slightly modified earlier version of the plugin for ages successfully. I'm aware of a number of organizations happily using this plugin that haven't yet reviewed it here. I really appreciate Chad LaJoie's original contribution (the version originally hosted at Georgetown U.), and all of the subsequent contributions and assistance from those that use this plugin. Thanks guys!

Since the jar file has no plugin.xml file, it was impossible to install via the repository. Following the instructions on https://studio.plugins.atlassian.com/wiki/display/SHBL/Confluence+Shibboleth+Authenticator I managed it to work, but it was not really easy to find a sample configuration that worked. If you have a lot of webapps, which are supported by Shib, it might be a good idea to install it. For me it was wasted time.
