The Story Quality custom field can be added as a column in the Issue Navigator. The story quality rating is shown as a number and a visual star rating.

The Story Quality custom field can be added to issue view screens. The overall and detailed story quality ratings are shown as number and visual star ratings.

The Story Quality validator blocks all "In Progress" or "Start Progress" transitions for user stories that have insufficient quality rating, that is, points less than the minimum specified for the project.

    More details

The add-on consists of a custom field and a workflow validator.

    • The Story Quality calculated field displays a rating of the overall quality of user stories. The field is sortable and searchable, and the rating is an integer value between 0% and 100%, based on different criteria consisting of the INVEST principles and other indicators. The overall rating is a weighed average of these indicators discussed in detail in the "Indicators" section.
    • The Story Quality validator blocks all "In Progress" or "Start Progress" transitions for non-administrator users (by default) for user stories that have insufficient quality rating, that is, points less than the minimum specified for the project. This helps ensure that the team is working only on stories that are ready for development.

Excellent idea and nice implementation, but I give only two stars because it really needs a configuration page to customize its behaviour and to map to already existing custom fields that are not named as expected by the plugin. I'll review my stars after I'll see these implementations. Also support for Jira 7 is a must have feature these days.

Thanks for the detailed review, Stefano! It really helps to decide on directions. I was thinking whether to make it configurable or not.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any more detailed suggestions, e.g. which indicators need to be changed to fit adapt to more use cases and configurations.
