Automatically manage watchers based on defined JQL queries

    Write JQL, add watchers

    Rich emails

    Everyone's watching!

Define a set of issues using JIRA Query Language, then simply choose users to automatically start watching every issue in that filter.

Autowatcher sends rich HTML emails through JIRA to every watcher you assign.

Autowatcher makes it easy to ensure that the right people are always watching the right issues.

As noted in several other reviews, contrary to what the configuration page states, the autowatch settings are NOT scoped by project. In our use case, this was fine (whenever a task was created by a user, automatically add the user's assistant as a watcher) since we wanted it to apply across all projects. I haven't tested it, but if you needed the rules to be limited by project, you should be able to incorporate that into the JQL query itself.

Tried to use this to set watchers based on value on another field. JQL is valid and returns that issue but for some reason watchers don't get updated :( So at least for me it seems like this plugin just isn't working.

The addon doesn't work as it states to do. The Autowatch Rules are defined in a project, but appear in all projects, while, at the same time, it states the rules are scoped within project. Repeating the same definition rule on another project is possible (creating repeated and indistinguishable lines), but further definitions don't seem to work. The documentation of the addon is not reachable, maybe because of deliberate discontinuation of the project. The result is that the addon is unusable on 14 Nov 2016.

I tested this out on cloud, but our organization needed a server version for this, and it looks like one is now available: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.mohamicorp.plugin.autowatch.autowatch-for-jira/server/overview

Works great and allows auto-watch based on component for tickets on creation. Need to manually add self as Watcher if criteria met on Edit but this add-on is a big help for cloud.
