Thank you Sharon, for pointing out the more in depth documentation, so I'm adding an extra star to be fair. I still think a couple of example themes would be good to include, as I suggested to Adaptavist. I'm still frustrated that Jira issues aren't editable directly without purchasing support, because I'm running into issues which are ambiguous whether Theme Builder or Confluence is causing the issue, such as "Error rendering macro 'panel-import' : null" and "Error rendering macro 'panel-element' : null". Allowing users who are not purchasing support to edit and access Jira would recruit them as partners in making Themebuilder better. I've been using Themebuilder since 2007, and the upgrade, going from the Free version to the newly restructured ThemeBuilder, was very painful, and we basically needed to redesign everything. We were due for an overhaul anyway, but I wish it could have been a smoother transition. The documentation for upgrading, and for recreating menus was not great. That said, it's an extremely powerful product, and I'm using it for several clients (I just facilitated purchasing a second license). Once everything has ben designed and Themes are up and running, it allows a huge amount of customization to confluence. I'm only being critical because I like it so much and because it's crucial to our services and I want it to get better!

    Hi Jeremy,

my name is Sharon Hinde and I'm the Lead Theme Developer here at Adaptavist. I want to thank you for this comprehensive review of ThemeBuilder, and respond to one point you mentioned on having to buy support in order to use features in the add-on. To clarify - all features and macros of ThemeBuilder, including image carousels, are included in the licence fee. We have a page on how to create an image carousel in our documentation (https://www.adaptavist.com/doco/display/tb/Carousel%3A+Container+and+Page), where every feature and macro is documented.

    Kind Regards

    Sharon

We are trying to upgrade our Confluence to the latest version, but this plugin only supports up to 5.9.4. Thinking on removing it, as we need 5.9.5 or newer due to an Atlassian fix ( https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-40630 )

    Hi Juan,

My name is Rafael Franco and I'm the Tech Lead for the Product team here at Adaptavist. Atlassian introduced severe changes to the Dashboard in the latest 5.9.5 which broke ThemeBuilder. We're working really hard to get that update as soon as possible for our clients because we understand how important it is.

Could you send me an email so I can contact you as soon as we have the fix in place? rfranco@adaptavist.com

    Thanks,

    Rafael

Hi everybody, unfortunately it is not possible to create any new pages in spaces styled by the themebuilder plugin, version 5.3.6 installed on the latest confluence version. The wysiwyg editor is not being fully loaded. Please refer to the error report we just created on your support desk and provide a fix as soon as possible! Thanks UPDATE: We solved this issue. It is caused by installation specific configurations and NOT really by the ThemeBuilder itself. Thanks to the Adaptavist-Team for the quick help!

Any ETA for 5.6? What is the chance of keeping up with Confluence releases, what is the average time for catching up with latest Confluence version?

    Adaptavist

    Hi Sasha,

ThemeBuilder is scheduled for development over the coming weeks and we'll be releasing a 5.6 compatible version toward the start of November. The majority of the clients we talk to have an internal upgrade cycle on a quarterly basis and we aim to fit into this schedule with our compatibility releases - which means compatibility releases within 1-3 months after a major Confluence release; we apply extra care to our testing, including testing the security and performance aspects of our solutions which extends the upgrade cycle as we believe this is the level of quality our customers require.

Update: ThemeBuilder v. 5.1.0 compatible with Confluence 5.6 is now available
    by Rainer Pöhlmann on 2013-12-18
We are also urgently waiting for a compatible version with Confluence 5.3/5.4, in particular since 5.2.x contained some "glitches" we do not really want to re-introduce and would rather prefer to skip this version. Could you please comment on your ThemeBuilder upgrade timeline? As a paying customer we would appreciate to stay informed in a timely manner. Thanks a lot for in advance your understanding.

    Hi Rainer,
We implemented a significant amount of improvements in ThemeBuilder for Confluence 5.3 based on users feedback and are currently finalising the testing phase. The plan is to release it by mid-January.

    Pricing

    Paid-via-Atlassian pricing FAQ

How does server add-on pricing work?

Server products and add-ons are hosted on your servers. Licenses are perpetual and the purchase price include 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your host product and add-on licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If add-on pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing tier?

The add-on tier should match the licensed user tier of the Atlassian host application. For example, if you have a Confluence Server license for 25 users, you should purchase the 25-user tier for add-ons. Even if fewer users want to use the add-on than your host application license, the two licenses should match exactly.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses?

For server add-ons, purchase and renewal is half-price if you have an academic license for your Atlassian host application. Server add-ons are always free for community and open-source licenses. Cloud add-ons do not have discounted or free licenses.

For more details about qualifying for special licenses, see here.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server add-ons, you can extend your add-on trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the add-on listing in UPM from your Atlassian host application, and you're all set.

How can I buy add-ons for my legacy JIRA Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy JIRA Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy add-on pricing is no longer available. You have two options for add-on purchasing:

    • Purchase the add-on at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your JIRA or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the add-on at the same tier.
