    More details

Label Tools lets you automatically add or suggest labels for users to add to a page. This can help you to categorise pages in a space by a known set of labels. You can:

    • Add predefined labels to content automatically and display a set of pre-defined label suggestions for users to pick from,
    • Set a title to show above the list of labels,
    • Add a description for each label to explain its use and why a user might pick that label to add to a page

Label Tools works when you have ScriptRunner for Confluence installed in your Confluence instance. Not only does it give you access to the Create Page functionality but you can extend, integrate and enhance it with the power of ScriptRunner.

After the change to requiring ScriptRunner, we were happy to pay the new license fee to keep the functionality, since we were making considerable use of the Create Page, and Choose Label macros. With the change came some functionality changes that were quite disruptive to the system I had implemented. However, within hours of raising a support ticket, I was contacted by Rafael who was keen for a call. We talked and he wanted to find out about our use cases. Once we were finished, Rafael promised to make the necessary changes. Within a few days, the functionality I required had been implemented and released. Now that's what I call good service - many thanks Adaptavist.

This really was a good add-on. I build my site based on it. I chose it because it was free, simple to use and I assumed that it would be kept working over time by a lasting company also having powerful payed add-ons. Unfortunately Adaptavist now decided to make money out of that nice functionality by bundling it to one of their quite expensive products. My tool selection was based on assumptions - and I was wrong. Now I have to pay for it because I'm not able to quickly rewrite my site. I've learnt my lesson.

    Hi Schmidt,

My name is Rafael Franco and I'm the Tech Lead of the Product Team here at Adaptavist.

I'm sorry to hear that you are not happy with the latest release of Label Tools for ScriptRunner. We've invested a significant amount of time making sure that the add-on was compatible with Confluence 6.x and also that users could extend the add-on to match their business cases. Did you know that now you can configure each label to be dynamic? So you could for example have a label that resolves to the current username, etc.

On top of that, we've fixed several issues:

    • Changed Label selection to a more user friendly selector.
    • Uniform $ variable instead of @ and %.
    • Fixed issue when selecting a label the screen would jump to the top.
    • Allow customisation of the "Apply Label" button.
    • When all labels are applied and there is no further choice, we now disable the control.

Understand also that maintaing these add-ons inside ScriptRunner for Confluence makes it easier to consistently provide quick compatibilities and bug fixes, together with new features that you might suggest. I hope you understand our decision to move it to ScriptRunner, but I'm happy to discuss this further if you could drop me an email: rfranco@adaptavist.com

    Regards,

    Rafael

Thank you for a good plugin! We are planning to upgrade into 6.x version It will be also good to know when your plugin will support Confluence 6.x Could you please provide an estimate for us?

    Hi Roman,

Thank you for your kind review. We're very excited with the future of Create Page, Label Tools and Page Information add-ons since starting from the next release they will be part of ScriptRunner for Confluence! This will allow you to use the add-on with ScriptRunner and further extend it and customize as needed. The next release will contain several fixes and improve the usability, together with compatibility with Confluence 6.0.1. We expect this to come within 2 weeks.

Bear in mind that for the next version of the add-on to work, you will need ScriptRunner for Confluence

Hope you're as excited as we are, and we hope to provide this as soon as possible.

    Regards,

This is a helpful plugin, thanks for sharing it! There are some things that could be confusing for users: If you click one of the labels provided by the macro, the widget vanishes until you reload the page. Also, a label cannot be added to the page several times, as usual. But you can reload the page and click the label as often as you like. It would be more convenient if the labels that are already added to the page would be removed from the labels list that is presented to the user. Also, some kind of multi-select would be good. Now, it's click - F5 - click - F5 - ... Click - click - Apply (or something of that kind) would be easier.

    Hi Evelin,

Thanks for your comments. I agree that is not very user friendly, and we created a issue on the backlog to address this. Understand also that Label Tools is a free plugin, and that we invest in making it free for the community, but we rely on the positive reviews to keep on investing. Would you reconsider the number of star reviews?

Would give it 4 stars if it wasn't for extremely slow releases of new versions compatible with Conluence builds. Confluence 5.6 is out for quite a long time, why can't the plugin be updated already?
