Tempo Timesheets is very useful, especially since JIRA doesn't support custom worklog types (as it has been requested by dozens of users). Tempo works for us, though it's a pain and time-consuming when it comes to scale (we have approx. 1500 worklogs to review per month). The UI slows down when there are many worklogs. It's not able to do bulk updates, and there is little progress on the Tempo product evolution. Tempo Budget is not yet available for the Cloud and integrations with other (HR) tools (for absence management) don't seem to be on the roadmap. I miss a feature to hide custom worklog types when they get deprecated and are no longer in use - the only chance is to delete them which also deletes historic data.

Whilst I'm lucky enough to not have to do timesheets now I recall this as being one of the easiest ways of filling them in.

We've been using Tempo for about 3 months now. On paper the feature-set seems well considered, and the data entry and reporting functionality are very well implemented, it's quite impressive and i believe we will continue with the product. Yet it's difficult to remain objective in a review like this, as one bug or missing feature can really overshadow what should have been a good review. However, that's what reviews are for, but please note that i don't say this lightly. If you rely on Jira notifications (via email), you will be very disappointed with Tempo Timesheets. If you did get notifications of worklog entires previously, they will stop with Tempo. I logged an issue with Tempo to no avail, and then subsequently a bug report "Tempo Timesheets not abiding by notification scheme" with Atlassian. In both cases I have spent significant time trying to get Tempo to accept this as a bug which they do not. They consider it instead a "feature request" and have steadfastly refused to allow me to either track it as an issue, nor to provide any kind of acknowledgement that the problem will be fixed. This breaks our Jira/Tempo use case at point b: a) ensure that people are adding timely comments to issues as they work on them and b) are logging time on each issue at least when they resolve it. I have no notification that b has occurred, so i'd have to resort to the Tempo workaround of running reports retrospectively. It's grossly dissatisfactory and in fact worse than it was before Tempo (where we did get worklog notifications)

We've been using Tempo Timesheets for a few years now and it's been fairly reliable and decent to use. The last few versions, starting in v8, had some bugs that were causing some frustrations, but they were manageable. Now, with version 9 and the removal of the "Timesheets" view that has been replaced by "My Work", we have lost functionality from older versions. No longer can you setup a default view for users with a JIRA filter. The API has also lost features with the new version.

Not sure why Tempo timesheet has below 4 stars, we have used it for a while now and can't live without it. It took some time to get use to Tempo 9 but now that everyone has adapted we love it!

In the new version of the Jira plugin, the logging dialog has become at best painful, if not unusable: The fields for start/end times and hours worked are connected, and entering anything in any of the three will violently change whatever is entered in the other ones. But not only that, the dropdown menu for start and end time changes instantly on a single click - so whatever is in that field will change, regardless of whether a value was actually selected. As far as I can tell, the only progression that allows me to enter something coherent is start time => hours worked, because that will adjust the end time automatically. However, due to the dropdown bug, even that is painful. It seems to me like none of the programmers or testers actually use the Jira plugin. I can’t see how this even went past basic acceptance tests, let alone QA.

The new version is a step backwards in a few ways. Two things I really need and miss: 1) Reports for daily time periods. Why was that removed? I can only do weekly, monthly etc. now. 2) Report showing work logs sorted by time. The group by enforces Issue --> Worklog now. What I want and had previously was worklogs by time (also showing issue number, but not as a primary group or sort).

    Tempo for JIRA

    Hi Chris,

    Thank you for your feedback!

Here’s some answers to the two options you pointed out in the review:

    • Currently, it is possible to create a report for a daily time period and “cycle” between days. This can be done by selecting the From/To as the same day. We don’t have a quick option for “Day” in the date navigation sidebar - but it makes sense to add “Day”as a quick option to improve UX and it is something that we’ll definitely be looking into.
    • It is possible now to group by worklogs only, which gives a list of worklogs with issue key/number. This list is sorted by the worklog “worked” time order (not the created timestamp). To achieve this, simply remove the “Issue” group by option.

Should you have additional questions or require assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our Support Team.

    Kind regards,

    Hlynur Johnsen

We use tempo for several years. New design is new - Ok. But In previos version was very functional status "Required to date" in timesheet table. Now I see that it is not available, there is only week or month "Required hours".

    Tempo for JIRA

    Hello Игорь Мартынюк,

Thank you for your comments, we welcome all feedback and take them into consideration for future improvements.

In the meantime you might want to consider the option to use the date picker to adjust the time scope to week, month, Tempo period or custom dates. This will result in the adjustment of the required hours calculation that perhaps will suit your needs.

As an example you can when viewing a week, and then setting the Date To to current date see the required hours being calculated from beginning of week until today. In the user timesheet view (My Work > Timesheet), the required hours are displayed next to worked hours in the header.

In the Tempo report view, Required hours and Worked/Required can be displayed as additional columns when grouping by users.

Please consider to contact Tempo Support for further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Hildur Nanna

    Customer experience specialist.

Tempo up to version 9 was a great plugin, which allows you to track time on projects / issues per team / individuals and much more! The old version had great functions and in general we were quite happy to use that plugin for time tracking in JIRA. Unfortunatelly now I have to agree with the last not much positive reviews on the new version of Tempo Timesheets :( Lots of usefull features like searching for projects / issues in the timesheet view itself by using filters, handy default grouping of issues by projects in the timesheet view, approving function, periods etc. were removed. The new UI is fresh, but less friendly practical wise and feedback from our end-users was: please, keep the "old version of timesheet table", the new structure is confusing! I really hope that Tempo product team will get back the good pracical stuff available earlier. As it is mentioned in reviews below, this is a very expensive plugin which functionality is currently not worth its price as the core useful functions are gone now :(

    Tempo for JIRA

    Hi Jana,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback!

In Tempo reports, we are providing many options where users have wide filtering options with the ability to save reports for quick access.

Currently we are planning improvements to the new timesheets view, including an approval option and a functionality to save user preferences. Also, we would like to get more specific details on the functionalities/features you pointed out in your review to better align with your needs so please feel free to schedule a call with me so we can go through those items together.

    Pricing FAQ

How does cloud app pricing work?

Cloud apps are sold as a monthly or annual subscription. You are eligible for support and automatic version updates as long as your subscription is active.

When your subscription renews each month, you are automatically billed for apps based on the number of users in your instance.

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my cloud pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. Jira Cloud apps are priced based on the maximum users of the Jira products on your instance. For example, if you have Jira Software (50 users) and Jira Service Desk (10 agents) on the same instance, you pay the 50-user price for apps.Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for licensing across maximum users still apply.

The pricing structure for cloud apps is as follows:

    • Monthly subscriptions with up to 10 Atlassian product users are billed at a flat rate price.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 10 users are billed per user, starting at the first user.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 100 users are billed per user. The table above provides example pricing at various user levels.

If you've opted for annual billing for your Atlassian product, apps are also billed annually at a discount (12 months for the price of 10).

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for cloud apps?

Academic, community and open source licenses are not available for cloud apps.

Can I extend my free trial?

For cloud apps, you cannot extend your free evaluation period. All cloud apps are immediately subscribed by a user, and we provide a free evaluation period. This is a minimum of 30 days and ends on the second billing cycle after you first subscribe to the app.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. For Jira 7.0 or later, the app tier should match the maximum tier of the licensed Jira products on your instance. For example, if you're running Jira Software (500 users) and Jira Service Desk (25 agents) on the same instance, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. For versions of Jira prior to 7.0, the app tier should match the licensed user tier for Jira. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Jira license, the two licenses should match exactly. Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for the license tier still apply.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

Yes, this app has a Data Center approved version. If you're using a Data Center product, you should install the Data Center version of the app.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.
