Approved documents lock; changes start a revision
Once approved, nobody can edit a document, its approvers included. Changing it starts a revision, which is approved again before it counts. A change made around the lock is detected and flagged.
A record you can hand to an auditor
Who approved what, at which page version, when, and with what comment, and when each revision started. Append-only: nothing is edited or deleted, and history survives a document leaving control.
Re-review comes back around on schedule
Set a review interval per document or per space. Approvers are reminded 30 and 7 days ahead; when the date passes the document is flagged Review due and stays readable, unless the space restricts it.

Controlled Documents qualifies for Runs on Atlassian: all compute and storage is Atlassian-hosted, data residency follows your site, and the app makes no external network requests - no analytics, no third parties, no developer access to your content. If your licence lapses, approval actions pause but the audit trail stays readable. Requires Confluence Standard, Premium or Enterprise, because control uses page restrictions. What it deliberately does not do, so you can judge fit before installing: no workflow builder (the states are fixed), no multi-stage or sequential routing, no legally-attested electronic signatures, no templates or bulk operations. A published revision is readable, marked as not approved, because Confluence gives apps no pre-publish hook. The register and each document’s audit trail copy as CSV.

A document’s audit trail now copies as CSV from the register: every event with its date, who acted, the page version and the comment.
Fixed: an approval or change-request comment typed quickly could lose letters and be recorded that way. If you recorded comments in an earlier version, check they read as intended in the audit trail. The same fix applies to the people search when choosing approvers.
Security: four advisories in third-party libraries are patched.
