TRUST SIGNALS
Key highlights of the appDefault priority, labels, components and due date per project and work type, wherever the work item is created
Works wherever work items are created
Defaults are applied a few seconds after a work item is created: from the create dialog, the backlog, a board, a subtask, the REST API or Jira Automation. Clones keep their original values.
Fills only what is empty
Labels, components and due date are set only when empty. Priority is replaced only while it still has the project default, so a priority the reporter picked is kept. The most specific rule wins.
3 scopes, no admin access
Smart Defaults reads and writes work items and stores its rules in app storage. That is all. No admin scopes, no data leaves Atlassian, no personal data stored. Runs on Atlassian.
More details
Jira Cloud has no built-in default values for system fields per project and work type. Smart Defaults adds them.
- Rules per project and work type, or for all projects
- Fields: priority, labels, components (one project per rule) and due date (0 to 365 days after creation)
- Applied a few seconds after creation, from every place a work item can be created: create dialog, backlog, boards, subtasks, REST API, Automation
- Only empty fields are filled. Priority is replaced only while it is the project default
- The most specific rule wins. Service projects only get rules that name the project
- Fields not on the edit screen are skipped, the rest are set. In team-managed projects priority and components apply only if the fields are added to the work type
- Values are not shown in the create dialog; they appear once the work item exists
- 3 scopes: read work, write work, app storage. No admin scopes. No egress. Runs on Atlassian
