Last Comment Field for Jira

Jira cannot put comment activity in a board column, a filter or an export — the long-standing JRACLOUD-2734 request. Last Comment Field adds a read-only custom field holding the newest comment on the issue: an excerpt of the text with the author and the date, up to 254 characters, updated whenever somebody comments or edits.

What works in JQL, and what does not. It is an exact-match field, so "Last Comment" IS EMPTY, IS NOT EMPTY, ORDER BY and an exact value all work. Jira's free-text ~ operator does not apply to it, so this is not a way to search inside comment text. It is a way to see, sort, filter and export comment activity — issues nobody replied to, a board sorted by most recently commented, the last comment shipped along in a CSV.

Triggers only fill the field from installation onwards, so Project settings → Comment Fields has a backfill that fills it in for existing issues. English language support. Built by Ballon Apps.
