Unfortunately, the SharePoint Connector does not work with Share Point Online for now.

We wanted to evaluate the product however it turns out that your Confluence Server must have a direct access to internet, otherwise you can't get it installed. It is a reported bug since 2015 however nobody seems to care. I don't know what security policies companies have that allow servers a direct connection to the internet. In my industry this is unheard of (at least from the ones that take security serious). As it looks now we will not be able to evaluate the product, hence also not buying it.

we have recently taken over-this add-on from Atlassian and currently work on the next release. This will feature some bugfixes which includes this bug. So please add yourself as watcher and await the next release. We would be glad, if you'd evaluate the next release of SharePoint Connector for Confluence

Writing this here so everybody interested can be informed as well. The connector only seems to support Confluence Server. What is the status on a connector supporting Sharepoint Online and Confluence Cloud?

As more and more companies are moving to Office365 we decided to place this issue at the top of our mid-term roadmap. Analysis of technical boundaries and conditions should start by the end of this year. As a result of that we will update this issue when more details are available and will keep you notified of any progress.
