Sharp at any size, because it is SVG
The usual complaint about Mermaid in Confluence is a blurry picture. Other apps store a small raster image; this renders true SVG, so the diagram stays crisp when you zoom in, print it, or open it on a big screen.
Full width, zoom and full screen
The diagram takes the width it actually needs, and shrinks only when the column is narrower. A zoom bar appears on hover, and a full-screen view opens the large ones on their own, without leaving the page.
Dark mode, expand and include page
The background is transparent and the diagram follows the Confluence theme instead of sitting on a white rectangle. Verified on published pages inside a closed expand, inside an included page, and with both nested.

What it does. Real SVG, not a raster image: the diagram stays sharp when you zoom in, print the page, or open it on a wide monitor. It takes the width the diagram needs and is only ever scaled down to fit a narrow column, never stretched up. A zoom bar appears on hover, and a full-screen view opens large diagrams without leaving the page. The background is transparent, so the diagram follows the dark theme instead of sitting on a white rectangle. Verified inside a closed expand, inside an included page, and with the two nested. When the syntax breaks, the error names the line and points at the column.
What it does not do. It is not a drawing tool: you write Mermaid, and there is no canvas and no shape palette. It does not render PlantUML or other diagram languages. The diagram text is not indexed by Confluence search. There is no AI generation.
