Jira issue templates: Create opens filled in

Each project has a Templates page. Pick a template and Jira's own Create dialog opens with summary, description, checklist, labels, priority and fields filled in. Set a default per issue type, and Create names it.

Sub-task templates: one template, a whole release

A template can create child work items and their sub-tasks under the work item it makes, in order, with {{parent.summary}} filled in. Or add them to an existing work item, which is never changed.

Assignee, due date, components and custom fields

A template sets the assignee (the person using it, or unassigned), a due date in N days, components and custom fields, on the work item and its children. Jira Automation rules can create from a template too.

More details

Templates for new work items: summary, description with a checklist, labels, priority, assignee, due date, components and custom fields, in Jira's own Create dialog.

  • Each project gets a Templates page; pick a template and Create opens filled in. Project admins manage theirs.
  • A template can also create child work items and sub-tasks, in order, with placeholders like {{parent.key}}. Or add them to an existing work item.
  • Jira Automation actions: create a work item from a template, or add its work items under one.
  • If Jira refuses an item, what was created is kept; resume or skip.
  • Save an issue as a template; a daily check flags templates that stop working.
  • Move templates between sites: export, check, import.
  • Get started: three example templates in one click.

The Create dialog names each issue type's default template; the app writes nothing into a form by itself. Adds no fields. Work items are created with the person's permissions. Nothing leaves Atlassian.

Summary
Get started in two steps, clearer empty Templates pages, and fixes
Details

Get started: after installing, the Get started button opens two short steps: add a template (three examples in one click), then create a work item from it on the project's Templates page. Each step ticks itself once it has really happened, and the steps go away after the first use, or sooner if hidden.

Empty Templates pages now send project administrators straight to where templates are added and tell everyone else whom to ask, and they name any templates whose work types the project does not have.

Also: the Templates page no longer depends on the usage count loading, and Automation actions keep to their time limit from the moment they start.
