Move a work item into an In Progress status while its assignee is at the limit, from the board or the work item, and Jira shows why. The work item stays where it is.
One limit, or one per project
Set how many work items each person may have in progress. Count across all projects or per project, give projects their own limit or switch them off, and exempt groups.

Jira lets you set limits on board columns, but not on people. One person can quietly pick up ten work items while the column limit still looks fine. Personal WIP Limits adds a personal limit:
- Add the Personal WIP limit rule to the transitions that start work, in company-managed or team-managed workflows
- When the assignee is at their limit, Jira explains why and the work item stays where it is
- Count across all projects or per project, switch checks off in a project, and exempt groups
- Moves between In Progress statuses and unassigned work are never blocked, and if the app cannot check, the move goes ahead
