It is a powerful add-on to share information in a sustainable way. Would like to see a more regular release schedule and fixes to issues such as nested content. UPDATE: More regular releases are happening now and I got some great support on recent issues I was having with the plugin. So I'm quite happy to see nested content is working for us again now.

Thank you for the feedback Bill! In the past few years Artemis has grown and we are more able to frequently release versions of all of our apps. The pace of releases is now way, way faster than what it was in 2017. We also now have a bigger team taking care of the support queue. I am working with you on a case right now, coincidentally. I saw this old review and thought I'd chime in :)

I have previously used MultiExcerpt and found the functionality very useful. However, I am for the first time using the Cloud Version and it does not seem possible to include MultiExcerpt boxes in a table? Is there a way round this?
    Artemis Software

Sadly, this is a limitation of the new editing experience recently introduced by Atlassian for Confluence Cloud. We have written an article about the details of their decision and its affect on MultiExcerpt here: MultiExcerpt Cannot be Nested in Table (Fabric/V2 Page Editor).

This happens for all rich-text body macros, they cannot be nested in Tables in the new fabric (v2) page editor. We have a list of workarounds in the article. You may want to add a vote to MEPOD-55 "Add a plain-text Multiexcerpt macro to the Multiexcerpt app" if a plain-text MultiExcerpt would serve your needs for nesting in Tables. Plain-text body macros can be nested in Tables in the new page editor.

first it's a very helpful Plug-In! we use it a lot in our Knowledgebase. But if you are planning to use many excerpts you need to to know that there is no reporting function were you can see all of your used excerpts with names. That makes ist very difficult to re-find them later (we have over 450 Excerpts). Many Users requested this feature including me but since 1 year there is sadly nothing happening.

Hi! We are currently working on a roadmap. This feature will be included on the roadmap.

Additionally, we would like to mention that we publish all feature requests and you can see the age of the feature request, unlike several vendors. Please take that into consideration as a positive.

    Thank you!

I have mixed feelings about this. This addon seems to do one thing just fine, and thats include/excerpt of multiple sections of a page. for this use case its good. But if you look at the release history, i think the development is stucked or at least very slow. 2017 only one update named "required scopes changed". No infos which new features are planned. Also a lot of open issues, which are not updated very often (https://artemis.atlassian.net/projects/CMEP/issues/CMEP-20?filter=allopenissues&orderby=priority+ASC%2C+updated+DESC) So long story short. pro: can include excerpt multiple content con: no "vision" of future features , what are planned features (perhaps an link to the full included page?) con: support und bugfixing very slow, just look at the issue queue and last updated-filter con: i guess its only one developer, so no backup plan

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your interest and trying out the add-on.

The issue you mentioned (CMEP-20) was fixed within a few weeks of it being reported, though the edge case of special characters in the title is an open issue we are still looking into. Is this still an issue you are experiencing?

Originally there was a single developer but we do now have a team, several of which are solely dedicated to customer support.

Lastly, what new features would you like to see? We consistently strive to improve our products, and suggestions from our customers are very helpful to determine how we can best optimize the add-on to improve your experience.

Thanks again for your feedback, and for your business.

UPDATE: as of today (early 2020) there have been 14 point releases of the Server version and the Cloud version has been constantly maintained. 2017-2018 was a period of rapid uptake of our apps, maintained with a very small staff. We are now much bigger and we actively maintain and support all of our apps.

Hello! We're trying to realize an automatted report generation in Confluence. Globally, we have multiple sites with a uniform content template. This could be tags as well as e.g. a defined structure of MultiExcerpts. Now, we're trying to automaticcaly assemble a report that fetches all Excerpts with a certain ID globally from all sites that e.g. contain a certain tab/label. Is MultiExcerpt capable of doing something along those lines? The exact technical implementation could look different, we'Re not nailed down to this. The result is what we need though. Many Thanks!

    Hello,

Thanks for the review! We have a feature request on our roadmap that will do what you want. We call it "MultiExcerpt Reporting Macro - summary overview of MultiExcerpts, their owner pages and includes" and we have it on the roadmap for both Server and Cloud versions of our app. Server: CMEP-98

    Cloud: MEPOD-57

Feel free to add comments or vote on either or both issues. Thanks!

Hello! The new version does not support inclusions from different spaces - this is a very important function especially for large information bases. It's avoid duplication and clicking on the link. Please fix this bug.

    Artemis Software

    Hello,

I tested the latest version on a production server to verify that inclusions from different spaces are working.

There is a known bug with the selection of other spaces in the MultiExcerpt Include macro: when using the keyboard (only) to select the space then the page selector is not properly populated (https://artemis.atlassian.net/browse/CMEP-190).

There are a few workarounds: 1) use the mouse to select the space, 2) repopulate the space input by typing/selecting the space a second time.

UPDATE: CMEP-180 is released with the latest version of MultiExcerpt.

I am an Atlassian Partner who is migrating a client from Confluence Cloud to Confluence Server. One of the largest pain points in these migrations is related to data in third party apps. The Artemis Software team have made this process very easy and have excellent documentation to support it. Kudos to them.

We are currently evaluating the multi excerpt plugin and it seems very usefull. We are planning to license it. BUT: We have a lot of spaces with the same structure/pages. It's very difficult to find the correct page your looking for. Are there any plans to implement https://artemis.atlassian.net/projects/CMEP/issues/CMEP-75?filter=allopenissues This would solve our problem

Very powerful tool that we use regularly to limit replication of data. Would be great to be able to include the MultiExcerptInclude macro into a template and not have to manually change each reference file. Even search/replace would be great :)

I should write 2 reviews. One for users (like us) coming from Confluence Server and migrating to Confluence OnDemand. In this case I would give it -10 stars. Why? Because the developers completely screwed up. Not only did they change the name of the plugin but also the nesting doesn't work anymore. In addition the support was not really helpful. If you start using it and you don't need to migrate I might give it 4 stars as it is quite useful.

Mr. Anderer, thank you for your feedback and we are glad you found many aspects of this add-on to be useful. In order to help our customers resolve the difficulties you experienced as noted above, we created instructional guides. With these instructions we feel that a migration is fairly easy to do now:

Migrating MultiExcerpt from Server to Cloud

Migrating MultiExcerpt from Cloud to Server

Problems with nesting of bodied macros in Cloud is an issue brought on by Atlassian, it is not a limitation caused by the MultiExcerpt macro. Essentially, Atlassian has announced that the new fabric(V2) page editor will not support nesting in Bodied Macros. The short answer to this: Atlassian says they will continue to support the old page editor. The old page editor is not nearly as limiting as the new page editor for nesting macros. Use the old page editor as a workaround.

We have written several articles about issues with nesting macros in Confluence Cloud:

MultiExcerpt Cannot be Nested in Table (Fabric/V2 Page Editor)

Bodied Macro can't be nested in a MultiExcerpt (Fabric/V2 Page Editor)

Confluence failed to render nested macro

Please contact us if you have any additional issues, and thank you for your business.

    Pricing FAQ

How does cloud app pricing work?

Cloud apps are sold as a monthly or annual subscription. You are eligible for support and automatic version updates as long as your subscription is active.

When your subscription renews each month, you are automatically billed for apps based on the number of users in your instance.

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my cloud pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. Confluence Cloud apps are priced based on the number of Confluence users on your instance. For example, if you have Confluence Cloud (25 users), you pay the 25-user price for apps.

The pricing structure for cloud apps is as follows:

    • Monthly subscriptions with up to 10 Atlassian product users are billed at a flat rate price.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 10 users are billed per user, starting at the first user.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 100 users are billed per user. The table above provides example pricing at various user levels.

Annual subscriptions may offer a discount depending on the number of users purchased.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for cloud apps?

Academic, community and open source licenses are not available for cloud apps.

Can I extend my free trial?

For cloud apps, you cannot extend your free evaluation period. All cloud apps are immediately subscribed by a user, and we provide a free evaluation period. This is a minimum of 30 days and ends on the second billing cycle after you first subscribe to the app.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. The app tier should match the licensed user tier of the Atlassian product. For example, if you have a Confluence license for 500 users, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Atlassian product license, the two licenses should match exactly.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

Yes, this app has a Data Center approved version. If you're using a Data Center product, you should install the Data Center version of the app.

Learn more about Data Center approved apps

What type of license do I need if I'm using this app in a Data Center product?

Because this app has a Data Center approved version, you should purchase a Data Center license for the app.

If you already own a server license for this app, you can continue using the server license in your Data Center product for a limited period of time.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

For server apps, academic licenses are available at a 50% discount if you have an academic license for your Atlassian product.

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.
