I was looking for a way to estimate the effort on our tickets with the whole team, and this app does the trick nicely. It's possible to configure it to see only the cards that are relevant in your estimation process. I set myself as an observer (so I don't need to vote) and the leader so that I can control when to reveal all cards (nice to see a green check on each user who joined the voting). I only ran into a few small issues while using it (these could be Jira's fault though): buttons disappearing (resize detail area to refresh), undefined team member icon (refreshing the page usually works). All in all, great tool.

Thank you, Sascha, for your feedback! 😀❤️ It means a lot to the Smart Guess team to receive confirmation that we're on the right track.

Regarding the issue of "buttons disappearing" — if I'm not mistaken, we recently fixed the problem with the "Show Estimates / Re-estimate" button disappearing. According to our release notes for version 13.19.0, released on February 20th, this issue should now be resolved:

      > "Fixed an issue where the 'Show Estimates' button wouldn't render under certain conditions."

Please let me know if you are still experiencing this because we identified the root cause and cannot recreate this issue. It may be a browser-specific issue we need to investigate further.

Regarding the "undefined team member icon" issue: Yes, we are aware of it but haven't yet identified the cause. The avatar displays the undefined member icon while waiting for a response from the Jira API. The component is designed to re-render once the src (image) becomes available. While this works most of the time, there are occasional instances where it does not.

We will take a closer look and see what we find.

      Thanks again!

      UPDATE

      Hi again Sascha,

Thanks again for your detailed feedback! 😊 Your insights really help us improve the app and ensure the best experience for everyone.

I’m happy to let you know that we’ve just released Smart Guess 13.20.0, today 3rd of March, an update that resolves the “undefined team member icon” issue. 🎉

      ✅ What’s Fixed?

      • Avatars now always render correctly – no more missing team member icons!

      • Performance improvements – fewer unnecessary renders and API calls.

      • More stable UI experience – smoother interactions across the app.

If you still encounter any issues after updating (you update by reloading Jira in your browser), please let me know!

Thanks a lot of bringing this to our attention.

Would be great except for two limitations (which I realize are feature requests, not bugs) # Voting card config needs to be per-project rather than across the account because we have teams who estimate differently. One team uses the granularity of the full default sequence of numbers and other teams drop the possible values to 2, 5, and 13 as a representation of small, medium and large t-shirt sizes. And those teams can be in planning at the same time, so one team changing the config changes the available cards for the other team. # Our scrum masters (who also vote) typically are sharing their screen to talk through the story, presenting attachments, etc. and when it comes to voting their vote is then shown via the screenshare. We had thought a workaround would be to have the scrum master have a second browser open on a monitor that isn't being shared and to vote there, but unfortunately all browsers for that user refresh, thereby showing the vote that was entered on the non-shared browser. Other than that, the principle of voting directly from the backlog rather than in a game is an excellent one. [UPDATE] I tested your update for issue #2 but it doesn't work. I selected ? card in the shared screen and then clicked my real vote off-screen in a second browser. As soon as I clicked the real vote, my shared screen browser refreshed the iframe/div (whichever it is) and showed the number I had clicked off-screen. I had reinstalled your add-on just in case it didn't auto-update to your new version but no joy. Thanks for the fast response though, much appreciated.

Grant Adkins, brilliant feedback. Thank you so much 😉🙌

      [UPDATE 1]

#1. We will start working on this today 😀🎉

#2. Aha, great insight for us as we had not thought of this case 🙏

It should be easy to make the workaround you mention work for you. We will investigate further and let you know.

[UPDATE 2] We just released a new version providing a workaround to problem #2. It works so that:

      1. In the Window you are sharing - select the "?" card

      2. In your second browser - set your estimate

      3. Click "Show estimates."

Try it out and let me know if this works for you 😉

[UPDATE 3] New Release available solving both #1 and #2

      1. Voting card config is now configured per project

      2. Allow Scrum masters to vote on an off-screen browser for anonymous voting

And yes, we are thinking about better solutions for #2 already ;)

Thanks again for the feedback, Grant!

Our team has recently been using SmartGuess. This is a really convenient way of voting on story points and so much better than trying to talk over several people on a call or trying to find cards to hold up. This is especially useful for teams with remote members. I recommend it.

A great app. Really helps teams who are split across the world to come together and estimate stories. It's also very helpful to give a voice to those who are less vocal. When there are many people on a phone call, it can be challenging to jump in and give your thoughts. This app allows the user to give their points and conversations can stem from there. 10/10 would recommend this application to any team trying to eliminate the bias of the loudest person in the room making the decisions.

Smart Guess was introduced to our team a few sprints back and I must say that its been a great add-on to our refinements. It really allows "everyone" to have a voice and that is critical in Agile development.
