Get real mail attachments in notification emails from Jira Service Desk – no more portal links

    Email attachments instead of links!

    Easy to setup

    Agents work as usual

Customers receive real attachments in their email clients - no more portal links! Notifications work as customers expect, and Jira instances behind the firewall can send attachments to external users.

Get up and running in minutes - easy to trial. Simply copy and paste the current configuration. Configuration is done within the Project Settings page for each Service Desk project.

There are no changes to Jira Service Desk's comment interface. Agents can drag in issue attachments as normal, and no additional training is required.

    More details

The Email Attachments for Jira Service Desk app by BDQ is a drop-in replacement for notification emails when comments are added or edited in Atlassian's Jira Service Desk Server. The emails sent by the app include the attachments added to those comments as email attachments, rather than links to the Jira Service Desk portal.

Our two aims for the app are to ensure that:

    • It should be as easy as possible to install and configure (less than 5 minutes)
    • Agents should not have to change how they work with Jira Service Desk to include attachments emails – no app-specific training, no fiddly additional UI or dialogs, just add attachments to comments as normal.

    Simple and easy.

We welcome your feedback about the app and can provide support to get you up and running if you have problems. Please contact us via support.

This plugin solved our problem to send attachments to our customers without login to service desk. We had problem with diacritics UTF-8 but support was really quick and problem was solved in really short time! Thank you for this plugin!

I'm testing the addon and its GEAT, but I can see, notifications have wrong encoding. I use UTF-8 in Jira, but polish characters are "a? e? c? l? z? z?" where correct is "aą eę cć lł zż zź" please help :(

We are just finishing work on a new release which will address this issue.

If you would like us to notify you when this release comes out, please send us an email at support@bdq.cloud or watch the app in the Marketplace.

A workaround that some users have found useful is to follow the steps in this Atlassian knowledge base article:

    https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/troubleshoot-character-display-issues-in-jira-server-203394762.html

In particular, adding the -Dfile.encoding=utf-8 and -Dsun.jnu.encoding=UTF-8 startup settings to ensure that the JVM is running in UTF-8.

Update 2020-09-24: We have released the update which addresses this issue.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. For Jira 7.0 or later, the app tier should match the maximum tier of the licensed Jira products on your instance. For example, if you're running Jira Software (500 users) and Jira Service Desk (25 agents) on the same instance, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. For versions of Jira prior to 7.0, the app tier should match the licensed user tier for Jira. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Jira license, the two licenses should match exactly. Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for the license tier still apply.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

This app does not have a Data Center approved version. Only apps meeting a set of performance requirements for large, clustered environments are approved for Data Center.

However, while server apps are built for single-server deployments, many customers successfully install them in Data Center products. If you're using a Data Center product, Atlassian recommends you contact the vendor to determine compatibility at scale.

What type of license do I need if I'm using this app in a Data Center product?

Because this app does not have a Data Center approved version, you should purchase a Server license if you decide to install this app in a Data Center product.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

For server apps, academic licenses are available at a 50% discount if you have an academic license for your Atlassian product.

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.

    Versions

    Version 4.0.6 Jira Server 8.0.0 - 8.12.2 Released 2020-09-23

    Summary

    Bug fix

    Details

This release addresses several issues around non-Latin1 character sets — for example, Cyrillic, Czech, Hungarian, etc.

    • Subject lines containing these characters were incorrectly encoded as HTML character escape codes. For example, the character Á would be shown as & #xC1;
    • Email body text was incorrectly encoded resulting in ? characters being displayed instead of non-Latin1 characters.
    • Please note that attachment file names are encoded using the Jira system encoding setting (System > System info > System Encoding) by the Atlassian Java API, depending on the character set and the receiving email client, these characters can be displayed incorrectly.
    • It is recommended to run your system in UTF-8 across the database, application server and web application. Please see this Atlassian knowledge base article: Troubleshoot character display issues in Jira server.

Additionally, some template variables were being incorrectly expanded in the text of the email resulting in HTML tags being visible.
