This is a great glossary-type app. I've been involved in migrating the app from Data Center to Cloud, and the creativas team has been great at working around Atlassian's Cloud restrictions on HTML manipulation. You can use a browser extension (Chrome/Edge) or special preview mode to get the highlighting. While Cloud has Atlassian's new highlighting features (Rovo/Atlassian AI), those don't have any way to manage terms at the space or site level or embed them using macros. We also have a very large instance, and the whole creativas team met with us to solve some issues so that things like picking a term space are very fast at scale.

This is a great tool that provides much needed functionality to ensure that common or important terms or phrases have a single definition that does not require edits to multiple places. It requires a browser extension and while those extensions are not for every browser, they have them for some of the most common ones (Chrome, Safari, and Edge). Besides the functionality, the ability to make connections between related word, such as acronyms (or any other connection that you want to establish), is tremendously helpful. What this app is really missing, and not sure how this can be done, is to prevent a term from showing up when the context does not work for it. For example, Task Work Orders (TWO) and the #2 will create issues unless you term Task Work Order and use TWO as an acronym. Other example include "Security". If the reference is for data security rather than physical security (or some other variation), the context can be confusing. Even with some minor limitations, this app has solved a lot of problems for our content and removed the need to have terms defined in multiple places and minimized our need to use excerpt and excerpt include macros. By the way, the team behind this app is incredibly supportive and helpful. We have Smart Courses too and the people who own and operate this company have basically done everything possible to help us out, added new features when we asked for them (within a reasonable timeframe - not everything needs to be immediate), have troubleshooted any issue we have brought to their attention, and ALWAYS fixes whatever issues there are really quickly. I highly recommend this company and their products - they put a lot of care, consideration, and love into them.

Smart Terms is the best glossary app in Atlassian Marketplace. It allows us to manage our 7000k term glossary. The support service is fast and helps manage any issue we've had during our deployment process. Update april 2025: Best support service, gave us a fix after Atlassian's major look&feel change.

Doesn't work in firefox (presumably because mozilla is stricter on apps that violate security constraints) which makes it a bit useless

Updated on October 2025: Now Smart Terms for Confluence works perfectly with Firefox. We collaborated with the Firefox team to develop solutions and enhancements. Do not hesitate to give it a second try and reach out to our support team if you have any questions!

July 2024: Hello Harry, Thank you for your feedback! We apologize for any inconvenience you’ve experienced with Smart Terms for Confluence on Firefox.

We want to clarify that our app and the extension do not violate any security measures. As mentioned in our documentation, the issue with Firefox is due to technical limitations encountered during the extension submission process, not security constraints.

While we are unable to support the live highlight feature through the browser extension on Firefox at this time, Smart Terms still offers robust alternatives to help you highlight terms effectively such as the modal Highlight or the terms highlighter Macro.

We understand how important it is for our tools to work seamlessly across all browsers, and we are continuously working to improve our app. If you could kindly raise a ticket through our support portal, we will make sure to notify you if and when the extension becomes available for Firefox.

Thank you for your understanding and support. We appreciate your valuable feedback as it helps us improve our products and services.

      Regards,
