    More details

Space Privacy lets you privately collaborate with partners, customers and other external parties using just one Confluence instance.

Confluence instances don't protect user data. Space Privacy does this with protected extranet spaces - users can only see other users who are also assigned to their extranet space.

The GDPR requires data protection by design and default. Space Privacy enables this by restricting functions (share, search, mention). You can't search for a person outside your extranet space, contact them or see their profile.

Space Privacy excludes defined internal groups from restrictions - employees can work together as usual.

Administer extranet users easily with pre-configured roles. Assign a user as a "watcher" or "commentator" without setting permissions manually, and customize roles as required. External extranet user administrators can manage users within their extranet space without introducing any security gaps.

This app is a part of Linchpin - Social Intranet.

Space Privacy allows us to migrate our special customer confluence instances to our company instance. Now we have all documentation on one point. We have tested the diffenrent views(customer, employee) on the new extranet spaces and it works very nice. No customer can see the spaces or users of another customer but our employees can ;) The support from SEIBERT MEDIA is very responsive and helpful (thumbs up).

Space Privacy is a solution for an important topic - to bring a kind of multi-tenancy to Confluence when using it externally. It aims to solve long open issues like https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-1882 and more. It's already quite advanced hiding people, people profiles etc. It's open how far it can go regarding macro support and support in macro user parameters.

    Hi Thomas Krause,

Thanks a lot for your review!

Currently the Space Privacy plugin supports the most important standard Confluence macros and certain other macros. We are working constantly on this plugin to increase the number of supported macros.

If you have some significant macros that are not supported, feel free to contact us and we try to help you as best as we can.

This is definitely the best app available when it comes to managing your permissions in a better way, and opening up certain spaces for external clients. The support team is also quite helpful when it comes to questions about setting everything up correctly, good practices and troubleshooting.

This app is a must have if you share your Confluence with different external Customer or/and partners. Easy to setup. The only thing that could be better is the amount of created groups.

    Hi, Andre,

thanks for taking the time to write a review for Space Privacy. I'd like to know more about how we can improve Space Privacy and explicitly the amount of groups you mentioned, so that the app becomes even better for your use case. Feel free to send me a mail to slerch@seibert-media.net.

    Best regards

If you have external users like we do, there is no way around this. Great idea, great implementation, great support when setting this up.

Space Privacy is the only way, as far as I know, to enable external collaboration and truly complete separation between spaces/users on a single instance. It's not as secure as having separate instances, but more practical and cost effective since. For example, there is no need to purchase redundant user licenses solely for the sake of privacy, set up additional servers, or use cloud instances with limited plugins. There are some things to watch out for that would not be an issue on separate instances, to maintain complete privacy. For instance, I need to make it a point not to click on the space menu when sharing my screen with a collaborator who should not see all of my spaces. This is a risk that a private browser window cannot prevent.

    Hi Ryan Carpenter,

thank you for this great review.

Idea is good, but as it uses up licenses then not suitable. Basically we, like many, just need read access to external authenticated users without using licenses since they are not part of the editing group - just there to read. The fact that this takes up licenses is very well hidden in the documentation. Documentation is also very confusing and too all over the place.

    Hi Accolade Partners,

we regret that you are dissatisfied with Space Privacy and that it doesn't fit your use case.

Our app helps a lot of companies to implement an extranet within Confluence without any concerns about revealing user data to people who are not part of the same company / customer.

Unfortunately it is not possible to change the way how Confluence deals with user licenses. Every user with a personal account needs a licence - whether they have write permissions or not. We have updated our documentation to clarify this situation.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do. In addition we would be happy about getting to know your use case better and the challenges you are facing with using Confluence as an extranet.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. The app tier should match the licensed user tier of the Atlassian product. For example, if you have a Confluence license for 500 users, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Atlassian product license, the two licenses should match exactly.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

Yes, this app has a Data Center approved version. If you're using a Data Center product, you should install the Data Center version of the app.

Learn more about Data Center approved apps

What type of license do I need if I'm using this app in a Data Center product?

Because this app has a Data Center approved version, you should purchase a Data Center license for the app.

If you already own a server license for this app, you can continue using the server license in your Data Center product for a limited period of time.

Learn more about Data Center licensing

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

For server apps, academic licenses are available at a 50% discount if you have an academic license for your Atlassian product.

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.

    Versions

    Version 3.0.2 Confluence Server 6.11.2 - 7.7.3 Released 2020-09-01

    Summary

    Patch Release

    Details

We extended the synchronization tasks to make sure the Lucene index and the Space Privacy data model are in sync. We have also prepared Space Privacy to be compatible with the upcoming Linchpin User Profiles "People Directory".

Please be aware of the technical notes of version 3.0 before you update or install.

The installation and especially the index process may affect the system performance for several hours (depending for example on the number of (extranet) spaces, users and the available performance). For this reason, we strongly recommend to perform the re-indexing at a time when the load on the system is expected to be low (e.g. on weekends or late in the afternoon/evening).
