A must have plugin if you want to kick-off some CI/CD initiatives using the Atlassian Products. Took me just few minutes to install and then configure my first rule, and it simply worked, and I was able to enforce the minimum requirements for our CI/CD workflow to work. The challenge with implementing robust automation in development is to ensure all rules are followed. In our case, we branch per story, and upon merge after review, our code is automatically built, various tests executed, including vulnerability scans, and finally our new container is deployed into K8S clusters. We use the JIRA issuekey as the identifier, thus we must be able to enforce that all commits are done in reference with the correct issue, in the correct project. And that's exactly what the Commit Policy Plugin does for us. Furthermore, I can ensure in a simple, but powerful way, who can commit into my repositories (in my case the developer must be JIRA user - where JIRA uses our AD user directory). What I liked here, since I had to put restrictions on my developers, the plugin didn't force me to change how my developers want to interact with the repositories, - in command line, in Bitbucket, in JIRA, in any type of git clients. It also allowed me to provide my developers with intuitive feedback - guidance how they should e.g. form their smart commits in cases the commit rule blocked them from committing.

This is very much helpful to my requirement. We have so much customization to check conditions before promoting the code to Bitbucket. This one Plugin take cares of everything. I will strongly recommand this for everyone who has customizations like me.

At the beginning, I thought "WTF ??? Why do I need it ? It's just yet another do-it-in-my-boss-way", but after playing a little bit more with JCP configuration an policies, I realized, that we must use it as an instrument for keeping the configuration management discipline. I mean, not all the software developers are well organized creatures (like me :-)). JCP plugin helps keep our GIT repository well commented and stick to Jira tasks and issues. Well, guys, it is not so terrible as it seems to be, and I really believe, every software company must incorporate it into its developing process.

This is a must have to have a clean repository. The ability to check the rules also locally is just great. The support team is really reactive and efficient. Good job for a great plugin

I highly recommend everyone to use the Commit Policy for Jira plugin for a couple of reason: - If you set up the proper rules you can make sure that everyone has a proper description of their commits. - People will not commit for the wrong issues, this will make it easier to track progress on your issue of your code. - You can't work on things that are not documented anywhere, this way everyone will always document what they are working on. Using it like this will make sure that your work is not becoming one big mess and that everyone is always organised and planned in properly! Also this prevents a lot of mistakes and wrong commits! And that's just the first few things we've managed to set up, I'm sure there are even better ways to use this plugin.

Even a small team needs a gate-keeper to protect GIT against incomplete and accidental commits. In my case, Commit Policy does it perfectly.

This is a very easy to use and extremely useful plugin for managing the workflow for large teams. We had 7 different teams using JIRA and GIT and wanted to have a simple tool to follow a good workflow.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. For Jira 7.0 or later, the app tier should match the maximum tier of the licensed Jira products on your instance. For example, if you're running Jira Software (500 users) and Jira Service Desk (25 agents) on the same instance, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. For versions of Jira prior to 7.0, the app tier should match the licensed user tier for Jira. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Jira license, the two licenses should match exactly. Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for the license tier still apply.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

This app does not have a a Data Center approved version. Only apps meeting a set of performance requirements for large, clustered environments are approved for Data Center.

However, while server apps are built for single-server deployments, many customers successfully install them in Data Center products. If you're using a Data Center product, Atlassian recommends you contact the vendor to determine compatibility at scale.

Learn more about Data Center approved apps

What type of license do I need if I'm using this app in a Data Center product?

Because this app does not have a Data Center approved version, you should purchase a Server license if you decide to install this app in a Data Center product.

Learn more about Data Center licensing

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

For server apps, academic licenses are available at a 50% discount if you have an academic license for your Atlassian product.

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.
