BigGantt has been a job saver for me - literally! I am currently providing Project Management for a program that is developing >100 s/w features, in addition to many h/w features, on a very aggressive timeline. As a Project Manager, BigGantt has allowed me to have real-time, by the minute access to all the Epics, Issues and Tasks generated in Jira, all in one place in the BigGantt Task Manager. The program is very flexible and with the help of the BigGantt Customer Service team, I've been able to customize everything in BigGantt to our team's needs. BigGantt is similar to standard Project Management tools such as MS Project, yet it's ability to be dynamic due to it's connectivity to JIRA boards make it (in my opinion) the best Project Management tool I have used to date for s/w development. In addition, the Customer Service team, who I bother on a daily basis, have been a great help in walking me through the set up and customization of the program, addressing my questions via email or phone calls within the day I send the request. I would highly recommend BigGantt for all your Jira driven s/w and h/w product development projects.

I tried the free trial of this app. It looks good but I found it an absolute pig to use. It was like trying to iron shirt with a steam roller. Amongst the problems I encountered were: I loaded a set of issues from two sprints using a JQL filter, this worked, but instead of being given usable start/end dates they were populated (I presume) from some details of the issues that meant that some were created starting 5 years in the past. This meant that dragging the gantt bars to set the actual start dates was impractical and I needed to edit the start end dates. This cannot be done in the Gantt chart (why not?) so the issues have to be edited in JIRA. In the issue view in JIRA the editing of these fields does not work, so one has to click again to get the "old view" then the start/end date can be set. Then go back to the Gantt app, and re-sync (which of course can take minutes). I entered "artificial" tasks to group the issues. Gantt suddenly stopped displaying these descriptions. So my issue groupings are just "1", "2", ... I've displayed the resources chart, all the team are displayed but the chart is blank, is not showing them as busy on the dates corresponding to any tasks that they are assigned to. The only way to setup links between tasks is dragging from a start/end symbol on one task to another on the chart - THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO CREATE A LINK when tasks have been created with stupid default dates this is a major pain in the ass...

    Hi Tom,

    Thanks for your honest review.

Yet, it is a pity that you haven’t reached out to our Support prior to submitting this comment. We would have helped you resolve that issue.

A little bit of explanation on the matters:

    • Lack of “Edit Issue” dialog is a limitation of Jira Cloud API. This has been described in Cloud vs. Server article, here.
    • Artificial Tasks - we’d be happy to look into this.
    • Resources view in the Gantt requires tasks to have Original estimate value. Otherwise tasks won’t be displayed there.
    • Limited possibilities of linking issues directly on the Gantt - although you are limited to linking issues using drag & drop, the situation which you’ve described shouldn’t have happened because, as of 2019-01-16, links have “as soon as possible” attribute enabled by default meaning the slack between linked tasks should be 0.

If you decide to give BigGantt another try, I strongly encourage you to contact us via Portal, in case cornered and struggling to configure the app properly.

    Regards,

I am reluctantly currently a user, but I am currently looking to find another tool since this one is unacceptable for anything but the simplest of schedules (for which frankly you don't need a gantt chart). The tool is about half featured for any useful applications, and whenever you ask about the half that doesn't exist, they send you a link to a ticket in their backlog. Some things, like critical path calculation, not only don't work, but even worse, are buggy (per their statement), despite being billed as features that are a part of the tool

It is quite unstable and even doing basic stuff is often a problem. If you report a bug answer can be something like this: "It happens sometimes just do it manually" - well yeah do it manually - hundreds of issues... Also asking to provide full administration rights to their email is not something what you will be wiling to do...

    Greetings Dusan,

Thank you for the review. We do realize that some issues with the Cloud version of the plugin might have caused a user to encounter few problems, especially in its first months after the official release. And yes, in some cases a manual troubleshooting was required, though we are trying to implement hot-fixes to all of our plugins as often as possible.

We do not request administrative rights to anyone's e-mail. In most cases we offer a WebEx troubleshooting session with screen sharing, where user reproduces the issue and one or two of SoftwarePlant team members guides them through the plugin set-up in order to resolve that specific issue. In some cases, when the above is not possible, customers offer a creation of a JIRA account with administrative rights to their environment in order to test, reproduce and fix some issues, though this usually takes legal forms like NDA.

Please let us know if the issue you've struggled with still persists or maybe if it was fixed with the later releases of the BigGantt.

    Kind Regards,

    SoftwarePlant

Very slow to create a chart (from a tiny test project). Came up with meaningless errors. Took no notice of assignments, scheduled all tasks simultaneously. Could drag them manually but not link them. If you did this, the change this was forgotten if you created a new chart. Changing the estimated time of a task had no effect on the chart; you have to make a new chart, which will have forgotten everything you did.

    Hello Richard,

Thank you for the review. We realise that it's been awhile though, due to some mysterious issues with our MarketPlace account, some of our replies were erased.

We realise that the early (beta) versions of our plugin might have not been fully functional, yet a lot has changed ever since. Our app is now much more stable and introduces lots of additional functionalities. If you would like to learn more and give it another go, please contact us via our ServiceDesk. Our Support Team will be more than happy to assist you.

    Kind Regards,

I have three questions. 1. Can I edit the start date and the end date by texting not drag-and-drop. 2. Baseline schedule bar is overlapped with present schedule bar. Can I replace the baseline and present schedule bars in two lines? 3. I know you'll support multiple baseline in around Q3 this year, Could you let me know the exact date?

    Hello Jin,

Thank you for your query and for the review. To answer your questions:

    1) This can be done indeed through Jira Issue Detail View. Please keep in ming though, this operation is still performed within Jira not in plugin itself. Even if it may seem like it.

    2) This issue has been fixed in one of the latest releases and should no longer be a problem.

    3) Sadly, the multiple baseline functionality has to be moved to the end of Q4 this year, as there's many other features which became our priority as well as the fact that we are planning to implement multiple baselines with plugin's new look and feel.

Large charts are crashing the browsers, previous updates froze company's work. The latest update when the dates moved in 20 years gave us a pain as we had to rebuild all of the plans we had. The next one, when you introduced new features (auto, manual, lock) broke all the locked tasks we already had with the previous functionality and we had to rebuild them again. Now, we cannot do almost anything with this add-on as we are experiencing a major issue: - large charts are crashing the browsers (have around 400 tasks) - middle charts take 5-10 seconds to process each movement (have up to 100) Have you ever tested you add-on on performance? Because unfortunately you have none. Do you ever test your builds on DB changes? Because we were losing the information with new features and your architectural restructures. Playing with it on small projects and a little amount of tasks was fun, but when it comes to a serious work on large project that take from 6 months to develop, this add-on is no use. We were forced to use it as there is no alternative on the market but now we are thinking about going back to external tools as even this manual work takes less time than dealing with the add-on issues constantly. PS. In case you think this is a hardware problem, this is not. We have NO issues with hardware as we have powerful dedicated servers and our PMs are working on Mac Book Pro pros (custom powerful configurations). PPS. I was trying to leave a feedback on the company's support site but simply couldn't. After filling out a form and trying to submit it I was thrown an error "Reporter field is required" when this field was hidden from the screen.

    Elena,

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with our plugin. We do test it under challenging conditions (60 000 tasks) but occasionally some circumstances cause major browser issues. Trying to leave feedback couldn't have happened at a worse time as our Service Desk was not working yesterday. Please write us directly at support@softwareplant.com and we'll get it sorted out for you!

    Pricing FAQ

How does cloud app pricing work?

Cloud apps are sold as a monthly or annual subscription. You are eligible for support and automatic version updates as long as your subscription is active.

When your subscription renews each month, you are automatically billed for apps based on the number of users in your instance.

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my cloud pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. Jira Cloud apps are priced based on the maximum users of the Jira products on your instance. For example, if you have Jira Software (50 users) and Jira Service Desk (10 agents) on the same instance, you pay the 50-user price for apps.Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for licensing across maximum users still apply.

The pricing structure for cloud apps is as follows:

    • Monthly subscriptions with up to 10 Atlassian product users are billed at a flat rate price.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 10 users are billed per user, starting at the first user.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 100 users are billed per user. The table above provides example pricing at various user levels.

If you've opted for annual billing for your Atlassian product, apps are also billed annually at a discount (12 months for the price of 10).

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for cloud apps?

Academic, community and open source licenses are not available for cloud apps.

Can I extend my free trial?

For cloud apps, you cannot extend your free evaluation period. All cloud apps are immediately subscribed by a user, and we provide a free evaluation period. This is a minimum of 30 days and ends on the second billing cycle after you first subscribe to the app.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. For Jira 7.0 or later, the app tier should match the maximum tier of the licensed Jira products on your instance. For example, if you're running Jira Software (500 users) and Jira Service Desk (25 agents) on the same instance, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. For versions of Jira prior to 7.0, the app tier should match the licensed user tier for Jira. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Jira license, the two licenses should match exactly. Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for the license tier still apply.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

Yes, this app has a Data Center approved version. If you're using a Data Center product, you should install the Data Center version of the app.

Learn more about Data Center approved apps

What type of license do I need if I'm using this app in a Data Center product?

Because this app has a Data Center approved version, you should purchase a Data Center license for the app.

If you already own a server license for this app, you can continue using the server license in your Data Center product for a limited period of time.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

For server apps, academic licenses are available at a 50% discount if you have an academic license for your Atlassian product.

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.
