We switched to Tempo Planner from another tool to have all our tools in the same ecosystem; we use it for timesheets & cost tracking. It's really simple to use for our team to map out the resources, see our utilisation and forward plan. We've found a couple of issues which to be fair were edge cases; we've had a really good response from the support team and fixes have come quickly to solve our issues.

To bad tempo planner isn't quite what i hoped it would be. If you would plan ahead you sometimes get hours a day like. 4.2 or 1.6 . this happens when i plan weeks ahead voor 8 hours a week. i also would like to see by user, is how much he or she is planned in like %. I know working hours a week but not for all by head. i could say a lot more but if you want to know more , just take a look at harvest , forcastapp.com. sorry to say it, but if it doesn't change soon my ceo wants me to stop using tempo planner and stick to Harvest/forecastapp

    Hi Danny,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Indeed there are different ways on how businesses prefer to do their planning. We have chosen to distribute plans evenly over a period of time rather than filling every single day as developers tend rather organize their work inside their teams. We really appreciate that you have come forward with your needs and your submitted feature request.

At the same time, we would like to mention the reporting capabilities in Tempo Planner where you are able to get a comprehensive allocation/utilization forecast of your teams/resources across your organization. These views are savable and as such only one click away. You might find this short video useful.

Feel free to reach out to Tempo support if you need any further assistance.

    Have a great day,

The latest update to this application has made it harder to use. Where Tempo can be connected to Google calendar it used to pull through the meeting name on the Description in the 'My Work' view, it has now updated to just show 'Activity: Google Calendar'. The current update also means that the page refreshes every time a Jira ticket or time entry is clicked. The previous version of the app used to review Activities from the list of the day, when the time had be logged in the My Work view. It no longer does this. Sad to see the user experience of the application take a step backwards.

    Hi Hannah,

We appreciate your feedback, and we hope to improve your experience shortly. Thank you for your patience in advance! We just released a fix for the Google calendar activity title so you should see it back in your activity time record description in My Work. Also, we are sorry for the inconvenience that the page keeps refreshing, and there will be a fix shortly for that. For your comment about reviewing Activities from the list of the day, would you please open a ticket with our support desk so that we can understand what you are experiencing: https://tempo-io.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/6

Planning time, especially for a big team, can be incredibly difficult. I tried a number of tools and spreadsheets but never quite cracked to code... but Planner really covered our basis. You can see the level of detail needed for each issue and all the way up to the project or multiple project level. Love it.

I researched many apps for the best time tracking solution for our Jira teams and went with Tempo. I use Tempo Timesheets and Tempo Planner to plan and track time for multiple teams. Their products provide more features and a better time tracking than what is native to Jira and allows for a better - less intrusive, more comprehensive - GUI for users than other solutions I researched. Tempo fit almost exactly what we needed. Planner provides a nice UI for cohesion of multiple teams and Timesheets allows for various ways to log time. Tempo also provides the ability to have multiple users both plan and log their own, separate times on a single Jira issue and then aggregates the planned and logged time for you. The only major thing that seems to be lacking is they still tie their "original estimate" fields and reports to the native Jira original estimate field. So are still stuck having to build processes and reports around using the native Jira Original Estimate field even though you are using Tempo as a replacement to the native time tracking. This won't work for you out-of-the-box if you want to democratize, and then aggregate, original estimates for multiple users on a single Jira issue and then see the total time remaining for unfinished work. Their suggestion is to code our own workaround for this using their API. However, Tempo does work fine for logged time and planned time fine. Tempo provides good out-of-the-box graphs for analytics, however they are not highly customizable for managers and PMO and the Tempo add-ons for Jira dashboards like to crash and a not the most intuitive. They provide good customer service, listening to our needs and following-up. They also provided 1-on-1 virtual walkthroughs and demos as needed.

Hi! We've just bought Tempo Timesheets and now we evalute Tempo Planner. It is just a bit confusing, because the Resource Planning page shows all issues in any status. It is not comfortable, but we didn't found any fields to limit shown issues by the status. Is it possible?

    Tempo for JIRA

    Hi Alexandr,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review.

Tempo Planner on Server does offer the possibility when in Resource planning to use the issues side panel to limit what issues are offered. By creating Jira filters you can control which issues are shown depending on your needs. This page from the Tempo Help Center explains the process further.

Furthermore, contacting our very dedicated Support team can assist you getting the best results for your organization with the use of Tempo Planner.

If you are willing we would appreciate it if you would use that same link to the Support team to contact us to give us further information on your use case. We always welcome insights from our customers on how they use our products, and how and why you are evaluating Tempo Planner could be very useful in the development of it.

If you decide to give us more feedback please mention my name in the ticket, Kristín Hreinsdóttir, to make sure that I receive it straight away. If you do not please remember that our Help Center and Support team have a wealth of information which should be very useful for you and your team when using Tempo Planner and Tempo Timesheets.

We use Tempo planner to make our life easier and to get a good overview of our resources. Employees plan their vacations and what issues to work on in an easy manner from their calendars. Manager can have a clear overview of team resources at each time, approve vacations and plan work in advanced when needed. We are very happy with what Tempo offers. Their products are very useful for planning our resources and ensuring we are at full capacity for each project. We have submitted numerous tickets for some onboarding challenges, and the Tempo team was quick to respond with relevant information to get our setup done right. We really like the reporting (although not optimal). Overall I would recommend planner to anyone who ask.

I am a project manager in a Russian IT company specializing in the implementation of Bitrix24 and Creatio CRM systems. We are using an application to track the workload. There is a lack of an interface for tracking vacation schedules, as well as the ability in the "my work" view of the calendar not only to write off the time spent, but also to enter the planned costs. It's strange that this has not yet been implemented ... Otherwise, everything is fine! https://ideas.tempo.io/ideas/T-I-292

    Hi Евгений,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Usually, the best approach would be the create an internal issue to plan and track vacation time. Then, it will be easy to track vacation schedules and to report on them.

In order to track costs, you will need to have either Budgets (on Server and DC) or Cost Tracker (Cloud) tools. They will help you to track cost and revenue as well as monitoring the financial health of your projects efficiently. For more information please visit Tempo Budgets or Cost Tracker.

If you contact us, we will be very happy to organize a demo for these tools as well as answer your other questions. I can get in touch with you if you log a support ticket and write my name in the ticket.

Whenever there is any status update on your idea or when it gets implemented, you will be notified automatically.

We are here to help you and make sure that you get the most value out of your Tempo purchase.

    Tempo for JIRA

    Hi Dominik,

Thank you for leaving feedback regarding our product Tempo Planner.

I am not a German speaker, so just to be clear, your review translates to something similar to:

"We use the plug-in already productively, despite still existing weaknesses and bugs. I think a free test phase would have been better and to take money for it sometimes seems cheeky, but you have to consider the developer to be good, that they constantly work on the module and make improvements."

After much discussion, Tempo decided to move most planning features from Tempo Timesheets to Tempo Planner. This change allows our Tempo Timesheets team to concentrate their effort on improving solutions to time tracking. Only individual planning will be possible in the new version of Tempo Timesheets Cloud for JIRA. Users can plan for themselves in the Calendar view (you can read more here). Planning for team members and the planning approval process are now within other planning resources in Tempo Planner. Planning approval is not currently available, but is being implemented.Improvements to planning time in Tempo will, of course, continue. Our Tempo Planner team has added key resource management features that customers used to planning in Tempo Timesheets can use:

    • Capacity reporting
    • Workload overview
    • Demand management

I hope this goes some way to explaining the recent update.

    Kind regards,

    David Wilkie

Hi, we are a small company below 10 users. Recently we were upgrading from JIRA 6.x to the latest (together with Tempo) But I was shocked to see that the server version is $100 instead of the standard $10 (for this amount of users). We'd like to continue using Tempo, but can't afford to pay 10 times more than we payed initially. Out of curiosity, why the difference between cloud and server?

    Hi Lucian,

To answer your question, the server is tier-based perpetual license with 50% annual renewal while the cloud is user-based license offered as monthly or annual subscription. You may also get in touch with us here if you have further questions.

3/17/17: I've spent several days working with Tempo Planner, looking to develop it as a replacement for the MS Project and Excel tools I currently use to manage a team of 35 across 30+ projects. Here is what I have found so far: 1. It's not intuitive, and the help materials are limited. Walking through the videos helps, but it's just a start, and there are some areas that I can't find any good documentation on (like the concepts behind time periods and percent efforts for resources, and how they relate to capacity planning). But then MS Project is anything but intuitive, so I'd like to think my expectations here are realistic. 2. Planner seems to be able to do about 50% of what I need, but what I really need is the ability to do the following: a. Look at resources over time from a project/sponsor perspective, ie who is on a project at what effort for the next 12 months. b. Look at resources over time from a resource manager perspective, ie organized by staff member. Ideally I’d be able to associate a manager with each resource and filter by that to get the resource manager view. c. Look at projects over time from a staff perspective, ie what am I as a team member assigned to at what levels for the next 12 months? d. I also need to be able to characterize the team utilization, ie compare capacity to utilization to say what percentage of the team is assigned to a project. I currently do this in Excel. UPDATE 4/4/17: Tempo has gotten in touch with me and I've had a good conversation regarding the current offering and the future roadmap. I've learned about an alternative approach that may help me in the short run to accomplish the second need above, and in the long run, Tempo is working towards a solution that meets most the needs I describe above (not sure about c, but it's the lowest priority for me). They also mentioned that they are working to bring the cloud and server versions onto the same code base, which will have many obvious benefits for customers and Tempo.

    Pricing FAQ

How does cloud app pricing work?

Cloud apps are sold as a monthly or annual subscription. You are eligible for support and automatic version updates as long as your subscription is active.

When your subscription renews each month, you are automatically billed for apps based on the number of users in your instance.

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my cloud pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. Jira Cloud apps are priced based on the maximum users of the Jira products on your instance. For example, if you have Jira Software (50 users) and Jira Service Management (10 agents) on the same instance, you pay the 50-user price for apps.Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Management, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for licensing across maximum users still apply.

The pricing structure for cloud apps is as follows:

    • Monthly subscriptions with up to 10 Atlassian product users are billed at a flat rate price.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 10 users are billed per user, starting at the first user.
    • Monthly subscriptions with more than 100 users are billed per user. The table above provides example pricing at various user levels.

Annual subscriptions may offer a discount depending on the number of users purchased.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for cloud apps?

Yes. Academic, community, and open source licenses are available to qualifying organizations. See our Purchasing & Licensing FAQ for more information.

Can I extend my free trial?

For cloud apps, you cannot extend your free evaluation period. All cloud apps are immediately subscribed by a user, and we provide a free evaluation period. This is a minimum of 30 days and ends on the second billing cycle after you first subscribe to the app.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. For Jira 7.0 or later, the app tier should match the maximum tier of the licensed Jira products on your instance. For example, if you're running Jira Software (500 users) and Jira Service Management (25 agents) on the same instance, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. For versions of Jira prior to 7.0, the app tier should match the licensed user tier for Jira. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Jira license, the two licenses should match exactly. Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Management, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for the license tier still apply.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

Yes, this app has a Data Center approved version. If you're using a Data Center product, you should install the Data Center version of the app.

If you already own a server license for this app, you can continue using the server license in your Data Center product for a limited period of time.

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

For server apps, academic licenses are available at a 50% discount if you have an academic license for your Atlassian product.

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.

For Data Center apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.
