    Important information on how to use Version & Component Sync (VCS).

    To make sure you fully understand the impact that VCS has on your system, we advise you to first test the app in a test/staging environment.

    Make sure you are fully aware of how the app works and that you have confirmed that it is configured and working as expected prior to using it in a production environment.

    In order to test VCS, create two or more dummy projects in Jira and configure VCS project links from the Jira Project Administration screen. Make sure to verify what happens when you create, delete or change versions/components in the master project.

    Reminder: When adding and saving a project link, VCS starts synchronising versions/components immediately. This could result in VCS deleting existing versions/components.

    We are currently only trialing this add-on but are extremely impressed by the very swift and competent support and suitably convinced to proceed with purchase. In particular the seriousness of a security issue that we found that led to the release of 2.1.8 was fully appreciated and acted on with a resolution turned around as a beta in a matter of a few hours. With a couple of extra nice-to-haves, like being able to synchronise only selected versions based on per-project-link regular expression (because otherwise all versions are replicated in all child projects), then we will really be able to have a centralised version management without all of our users needing version admin (ie project lead/deputy) rights in all projects (see e.g. https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-3156 )

    I love this plugin! We use it for our major JIRA projects. Saves a ton of time for versions updates. Although we experience some issues with JIRA 7.2.7. Sync is not working for the NEW links (shows sync in JIRA admin view, but fields are still disconnected). Any ideas what might be the problem? Is the latest release could fix this issue? Thanks, Ewa

    Re-installed after updating to get the 2/22/17 patch. But now every time I enable the add-on, the Summary view for a project's administration page looks like the HTML is mangled. When I click on the link to add a project link for Versions or Components, the link takes me back to the mangled Summary view.

    Thanks for your feedback on the Version & Component Sync add-on. The problem with not finding any projects to sync with is indeed a know problem. A hotfix release will be made available on the Atlassian Marketplace by the end of today for all supported versions of the add-on to address this issue.

    This was a great tool that allowed us to sync our versions across multiple projects. We had 10+ projects, setup for each scrum, and this tool allowed all scrums to stay in sync for versions. Prior to this tool, we ran into challenges keeping everything in sync. We didn't use it for components but I assume it would be just as helpful there. There were 2 small limitations that we ran into, but they were more about educating our team about how to effectively use the tool, than issues with the tool itself. 1. When a Project Admin tried to create versions in their project on a ticket, it would appear to work but then later disappear once the sync happened. This was easily solved by showing that versions needed to be created in the master project. 2. We were unable to rename versions once set. Because all the versions came from the master project, if it was updated in the master project, the version in all the other projects would become invalid and the values were removed. Its not a big deal (you can do a historic search on versions and bulk update them to the new name), but it would be nice to enable some sort of renaming functionality.

    We are a medical device company and use multiple Jira projects to create our product, document it, and support it. We need to accurately track the versions and also be able to accurately filter on usage and problems by feature. Using the master versions and components lists across projects keeps our data and trending clean and accurate.

    We have been using this plugin with our JIRA instance for a number of years. Recently a combination of JIRA version upgrade and plugin upgrade resulted in some issues. I wrote a ticket and got an immediate response from the Collabsoft team. The issue turned out to be somewhat complex, and required a couple of online sessions to address. The Collabsoft Support and Technical teams were very helpful, and even setup working sessions across multiple world wide timezones to get the issue resolved. Further, in the process we found a couple of additional bugs in their plugin which they were able to fix and roll out in a new version in just a couple of weeks. All in all a good experience; reading other reviews seems they have had some issues in the past but these seem to have been addressed. I can recommend both the plugin and their support for it.

    How does server app pricing work?

    Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

    You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

    If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

    How do I determine my server pricing?

    Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. For Jira 7.0 or later, the app tier should match the maximum tier of the licensed Jira products on your instance. For example, if you're running Jira Software (500 users) and Jira Service Desk (25 agents) on the same instance, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. For versions of Jira prior to 7.0, the app tier should match the licensed user tier for Jira. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Jira license, the two licenses should match exactly. Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for the license tier still apply.

    Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

    This app does not have a Data Center approved version. Only apps meeting a set of performance requirements for large, clustered environments are approved for Data Center.

    However, while server apps are built for single-server deployments, many customers successfully install them in Data Center products. If you're using a Data Center product, Atlassian recommends you contact the vendor to determine compatibility at scale.

    What type of license do I need if I'm using this app in a Data Center product?

    Because this app does not have a Data Center approved version, you should purchase a Server license if you decide to install this app in a Data Center product.

    Can I extend my free trial?

    This release only adds support for Jira 8.2+. It does not include additional features or bug fixes. Customers who are not planning to upgrade to Jira 8.2+ do not need to upgrade to this version of the add-on.

    Installation

    1. Log into your Jira instance as an admin.
    2. Click the admin dropdown and choose Atlassian Marketplace. The Manage add-ons screen loads.
    3. Click Find new apps or Find new add-ons from the left-hand side of the page.
    4. Locate Version & Component Sync for Jira via search. The appropriate app version appears in the search results.
    5. Click Try free to begin a new trial or Buy now to purchase a license for Version & Component Sync for Jira. You're prompted to log into MyAtlassian. Version & Component Sync for Jira begins to download.
    6. Enter your information and click Generate license when redirected to MyAtlassian.
    7. Click Apply license. If you're using an older version of UPM, you can copy and paste the license into your Jira instance.
