    Comprehensive back up

    At a glance status

    Easily scripted

Captures up-to-date copies of your Git repositories, filesystem data and database data.

Keep your team informed on the status of a back up with the progress page. All visitors during a back up will be automatically forwarded to Bitbucket Server once completed.

The command-line interface means you can use your favourite task scheduler (e.g. cron, Windows Task Scheduler) to automate backups.

    More details

The Bitbucket Server Backup Client contains two command-line programs that can be used to backup and restore a Bitbucket Server.

The backup client generates a full backup of a Bitbucket Server. The command-line tool is easily scriptable and is intended for use in regular, scheduled backups.

The restore client restores a Bitbucket Server from a backup file. It can restore to a new database if the original database is not available (for instance, in case of a hardware failure).

The Bitbucket Server Backup Client requires Java 8 or above. Due to a bug in Java, it requires the additional command line option "-noverify" when running on Java 8u11. For more details on the problem, see BSERV-5069.

You can find more information about the Bitbucket Server Backup Client on the Bitbucket Server data recovery and backups page.

I've had the backup running since the 3.x version. In fact, with this (and CrashPlan) running, I had forgotten it was even scheduled on my server. Come to find out, it had been chugging along fine for over a year. I just upgraded to the latest version for 4.5.1 use and it took 5 min to read and configure. Did I mention CrashPlan is a great option as belt and suspenders, or periodic VM snapshots?

Why can't you implement the backup and restore function in the Bitbucket server itself, like Jira, Confluence and Bamboo? There are so many traps, before you make it run and it's absolutely unstable.

Is this plugin still functional/supported? I am having issues installing it on stash-3.0.4 and stash-3.8.1. I have also changed the file from .zip to .jar but I still can't install it.

Bitbucket Server should have backup and restore functionality built in. Look at how Jfrog Artifactory does it with a psuedo cron job setup for multiple types of backups. This external program business is totally amateur hour. One star bbecause it exists and seems to work within its limitations.

I have only got this to work with Java 8. Using Java 11 the module system seems to trip it up. A bit surprising that Atlassian does not have a robust backup system in place for an enterprise product. Should come with a warning on Java compatibility. Once you have it working it does the very basic task it should do. As it does what it claims it get three stars.

The version history page [https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.stash.backup.client/server/versionhistory] incorrectly states Version 3.3.3 • Bitbucket Server 4.8.0 - 5.5.1 • Released 2017-08-15. As per Atlassian support team, v3.3.3 adds support for Bitbucket Server up to 5.3 (NOT 5.4 or 5.5)

It just does not work. It says its compatible up to 5.5.0 but the error it throws is not useful. From the log it looks like it might be having issues with the version of Java but it isn't saying what the issues are.
