Jira 7.2 introduces a new "labs-mode" rich text editor that has a fair amount of overlap with jEditor. Unfortunately, enabling the labs editor seems to cause jEditor to malfunction. Any idea when this will get fixed?

The editor has some functions that are not in the OOTB rich text editor. The major drawback is that is does not support wiki markup for those user who prefer to use wiki markup.

The lack of rich editing capability in JIRA is a long standing pain point (See https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-8943). For a long time, Atlassian's standpoint on this issue was that it was not important. Recently they changed their message, so I'm hopeful that the situation will improve soon. This plugin compensates for the missing functionality in JIRA, which in itself is of course great. However, after using the plugin for a while I must say the integration with JIRA is quite poor: * You are no longer able to use WIKI syntax. (There is an option to switch to wiki-syntax, but as soon as someone else touches the issue, things get converted back to html) * Integration with the rest of JIRA is limited and buggy. * Behavior of the plugin is unpredictable. The javascript will break regularly. For people that do not use the WIKI syntax at all and don't make use of mentions, it might work, but personally, I cannot say I would recommenced this plugin.

The html code generated (or entered in code view) often results in Jira throwing exceptions. If one hasn't copied the text one entered, it is then lost. If one has, one can paste it back in and in code view clean up the tags that seem to cause the issues. Several times if needed. While we developers have learned how to work with the tool, it is not suitable for clients (we've tried).

Is JEditor is available or support for DC now? Can I buy the Server version and install for my DC? Will it work?

    Hi Khanh,

Thank you for the feedback. JEditor DC will be released within 30 days. The Server version will work just fine in the DC environment. There're no known incompatibility issues.

This is an absolute must-have for JIRA.

JEditor Data Center Edition will be available very soon.

    by Gavad Khan on 2018-09-17
All attachments uploaded/linked by JEDITOR are unsecured (not respecting JIRA authentication token). If anyone know the direct URL of JEDITOR attachment then he/she can download the attachment without login into JIRA. Think, if anyone send description field text data via CSV export to external parties, then they can access/download attachments just hitting the attachment URL in browser. I found this issue while working on jeditor version 2.3.19. I don't know if this issue already fixed in latest version

    Hi Gavad,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Actually, you can enable the mandatory authentication in JEditor Configuration > Settings. Parameter's name is Require Auth.

We use JEditor since years and we appreciate very much it's development. As far as our knowledge goes, no other Editor has that many features as JEditor. The editor has all the options you possibly want and even more: With the possibility of defining your own styles and creating any templates, you can use complex designs which otherwise would need deeper HTML knowhow from the normal user. The development team listens to new suggestions and is very quick in realizing them. The same is for bugs: once reported, they are fixed very fast. Maybe those complaining about bugs should try to inform the developers and they might experience the same. What we miss is a good documentation, which currently is not available. But so far we managed to find out how the different settings work, since they are somehow intuitive. To those that want to use markup language we suggest to use the built-in Editor of Jira. Overall, it is the best you can get for rich text editing in Jira and even compared to other rich text editors outside of Jira one of the best.

    Pricing FAQ

How does server app pricing work?

Server products and apps are hosted on your servers. This app is sold as a perpetual license, and the purchase price includes 12 months of maintenance (support and version updates).

You can renew maintenance after 12 months at 50% of the current purchase price. You can upgrade the tier of your Atlassian product and app licenses at any time. Upgrade prices are calculated based on Atlassian's formula (view example).

If app pricing changes after your initial purchase, there's a 60-day grandfathering period during which you can renew based on the old pricing.

How do I determine my server pricing?

Apps are billed based on the number of users in your Atlassian product. For Jira 7.0 or later, the app tier should match the maximum tier of the licensed Jira products on your instance. For example, if you're running Jira Software (500 users) and Jira Service Desk (25 agents) on the same instance, you should purchase the 500-user tier for apps. For versions of Jira prior to 7.0, the app tier should match the licensed user tier for Jira. Even if fewer users want to use the app than your Jira license, the two licenses should match exactly. Note: While this app has features specific to Jira Service Desk, the app is technically available across the whole Jira instance. Therefore the above guidelines for the license tier still apply.

Can I install this app in a Data Center product?

Yes, this app has a Data Center approved version. If you're using a Data Center product, you should install the Data Center version of the app.

Learn more about Data Center approved apps

What type of license do I need if I'm using this app in a Data Center product?

Because this app has a Data Center approved version, you should purchase a Data Center license for the app.

If you already own a server license for this app, you can continue using the server license in your Data Center product for a limited period of time.

Learn more about Data Center licensing

Do you offer academic, community, or open-source licenses for server apps?

For server apps, academic licenses are available at a 50% discount if you have an academic license for your Atlassian product.

Community and open-source licenses are available for server apps. Learn more about community and open source licenses.

Can I extend my free trial?

For server apps, you can extend your app trial up to 5 times - in other words, for up to six months. Extend your trial by generating a new evaluation license key from Atlassian Marketplace. Click Try it free and you'll be directed to generate a new license. Paste this license key into the app listing in UPM from your Atlassian product, and you're all set.

How can I buy apps for my legacy Jira Server or Confluence Server license?

If you own a legacy Jira Server Unlimited (100+ users) or Confluence Server Unlimited (2000+ users) license purchased in 2012 or earlier, legacy app pricing is no longer available. You have two options for app purchasing:

    • Purchase the app at the non-legacy Unlimited (10000+ users) tier.
    • Renew your Jira or Confluence license at a non-legacy tier, then purchase the app at the same tier.
